If you were a mode of transport what would you be and why?
If you woke up and your house was on fire, what 3 thing would you first
rescue?
Worship
Last week we talked about Jesus, what he has done for us and why he did
it.
We know we don't deserve it but its grace.
Through the death and
resurrection of Jesus we can stand before God with confidence. (Heb 10 19.22).
We can be honest, its says in the bible God knows us completely, he knows how
many hairs we have on our head! He knows when we will say or think something
before we even do it!
So lets be honest, tell God what you really think about him, it doesn't
have to be just pretty happy things, take a look at the psalms, there full of
people being honest with God saying where are you? I need you, do something!
We are going to do the same we are going to be honest with God and write
down how we feel about him
[Play Delirious Oh lead me.........]
[Read Eph 2v1-10]
Does anyone want to share what they have wrote?
Word
Ok well if God has saved us through Christ, and if I accept him then
what now?
Do I just carry on living the way I am doing now or do I have to strive
to be perfect?
I think its a bit of both, obviously when we become a Christian we want to
follow Christ and be like him but I believe there is an element of letting
Gods Holy Spirit transform us from the inside. (Romans 12v2)
This takes time! not just an instant fix and everything is dandy and you
become some super spiritual person with beams of light coming from you!
Who the heck is the Holy Spirit anyway?
He is part of the trinity, its
like a tripod, the trinity is not compete and wont work unless all 3 legs or
things are in place. Jesus promised us that even though he will be going he
will leave his spirit with us.
The spirit is our guide our help and our
strength, Suppose the Holy Spirit is like a conscience (a bit like Jimmny
Cricket!)
He is the one who puts that feeling of "I shouldn't really be doing
this"
Have you ever felt that? Before you were a Christian or even if your
not?
Well it says John 16v8 he will convict us of our sin which is more than
convincing us it is showing us.
What else does he do?
Romans 8v26 -
intercedes/interprets
John 16v13 - Guides
Romans 8v14 - Leads
Ephesians
1v13-14 - seals us in Christ
Romans 8v1-2 - sets us free
The Holy Spirit has
been there since creation
It says that he was hovering over the water, so he
is old Skool
In the old testament the spirit was given to certain people to
carry out certain tasks but when Jesus came he said now the spirit is for
everyone!
What about the whacky bits that you see when people talk about the
Holy spirit?
Acts 2v1-6, 12-13 - Pentecost
What's all this fire and people
speaking in weird languages?
[Show Bruce Almighty Clip> Chapter 11 in scene
selection where he makes the newsreader speak a load of rubbish and weird
things!]
This is how the Holy Spirit DOESN'T work, the gift of tongues is not
one to sound stupid....
[explain about tongues]
What other things sometimes
happen when the spirit of God comes?
Crying - for ourselves or others
laughing
- when he brings joy
Screaming out - when he releases pain
Feeling loved -
when we need it
Feeling like you need to get right with God - when we have
turned away people
shake - Spirit is working deep within
fall over? - completely
in control?
being still - when you are restless
feeling peace - when your life is in a mess
How do we receive the Holy Spirit?
Ask! simple as that, invite him to come
and be with you?
Don't need to hype him up, we just ask Pray...
