Before the meeting, print out some of the verses below and put them in a
hat / tin. You might want to include the sub-heading with the verse,
ie, "being angry".
Last week we were thinking about harvest - a personal harvest.
We saw that the Bible told us some of the good things and bad things God wanted to see
in our lives
Now this week we could look at some of those things in more detail.
We are going to do that by picking out some verses from the Bible on
some of the subjects from last week.
The main bit
[Invite the group to pick a verse from the 'hat' and read it out, then
Stuff we should not do (Galatians 5.19-21)
Worshipping other Gods
Leviticus 19:4"Don't take up with no-god idols. Don't make gods of cast metal. I am GOD,
Lev 19:17"Do not hate your brother in your heart. Correct your neighbour boldly when
he does something wrong. Then you will not share his guilt"
Proverbs 26:17 "It's better to take hold of a mad dog by the ears
than to take part in someone else's argument. "
Romans 13:13 "Let us act as we should, like people living in the
daytime. Have nothing to do with wild parties. Don't get drunk. Don't take
part in sexual sins or evil conduct. Don't fight with each other. Don't be
jealous of anyone"
Solomon 8:6(b) "Love is as strong as death; jealousy is as strong as
the grave. Love bursts into flames and burns like a hot fire."
Proverbs 27:4 "An angry person is dangerous, but a jealous person is
Proverbs 26:20 "When you run out of wood, the fire goes out; when the
gossip ends, the quarrel dies down."
"Forget about deciding what's right for each other. Here's what you need
to be concerned about: that you don't get in the way of someone else, making
life more difficult than it already is."
Feeling envy ( having a bad attitude towards somebody because they have it good )
Proverbs 24:1-2 "Don't envy bad people; don't even want to be around
them. All they think about is causing a disturbance; all they talk about is
Phil 4:4 "Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him!
Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you're on their side,
working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is
about to arrive. He could show up any minute!"
2 Peter 1:5-7
"So now you believe, try to live a good life. When you live a good life,
try to learn more about God. When you have learned more, be strong to do
what is right. Then go on doing what is right, even if it is hard. As you go
about doing right, keep close to God. As you keep close to God, love your
Christian brothers. When you love your Christian brothers, love everyone!
