Talk (Love / Love Actually)
Note: this talk is a different version of my
love is...talk
Talk Introduction
- Tonight we’re going to be talking about Love and what the Bible has to say about it
- But before we do that…we’re going to watch a short clip from Love Actually
- [Show the wedding scene at the start of Love Actually Scene 2]
The middle bit
- When we think about the word Love we usually think of romantic love …like
we saw in the clip
- But love is much more that that
- Let’s look at what the bible has to say about it…
- [Print out 1 Corinthians 13, from The Message (Page 424). Put each
line on a slip of paper]
- Love never gives up
- Love cares more for others than for self
- Love doesn't want what it doesn't have
- Love doesn't strut (pompous…self important…inflated)
- Doesn't have a swelled head
- Doesn't force itself on others
- Isn't always "me first"
- Doesn't fly off the handle
- Doesn't keep score of the sins of others
- Doesn't revel when others grovel
- Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth
- Puts up with anything
- Trusts God always
- Always looks for the best
- Never looks back
- But keeps going to the end
- [Invite members of the group to take a slip, and read the text aloud.]
Conclusion
- This is the kind of love that God offers us…
- [Read out 1 Corinthians 13 again]
- This love is there for the taking…
- There is a verse in the Bible that says
- “…I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the
door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me…” revelation
3:20
- In other words, God is standing at the door of your life waiting for you
to let him in…
- The choice is yours
- If you want to receive that love, talk to God about it!
- If you need some help, ask us…
- [Pray]
