Talk Introduction
Tonight we are going to think about why bad things happen…
As I’m sure you know, the Christmas has seen one of the world’s worst
natural disasters…
[Look at some pictures on the DVD player]
The middle bit
I found those pictures quite shocking
How do they make you feel?
What do they make you think about?
Do you know anybody who was affected by what happened?
A lot of people who believe in God are asking how this could happen
Do you think that God is in control of these kind of things?
Why / why not?
If God is in control, then why might he allow this to happen?
There is nowhere in the Bible where God promises us an easy life…
He does promise us a fulfilled life and life after death
[Check out Ecclesiastes 2:24-26 / Job]
The Bible reminds us that even when bad stuff happens, he still with us
Psalm 23 ”The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in green pastures.
He leads me to calm water.
He gives me new strength.
He leads me on paths that are right for the good of his name.
Even if I walk through a very dark valley,
I will not be afraid,
because you are with me.
Your rod and your staff comfort me.
You prepare a meal for me in front of my enemies.
You pour oil on my head; you fill my cup to overflowing.
Surely your goodness and love will be with me all my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord for ever.”
Romans 8:35-39 "…nothing above us, nothing bellow us, nor anything else in the whole world
will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus
our Lord"
Conclusion
We though the best way to finish tonight was to pray…
We’re going to do that using candles…
One at a time I’ll let you light your candle…and when you do, I invite you
to say a prayer for those effected by what has happened
