Provide an opportunity to discus the reality of drug use amongst young
people
What would you do if
Is it ever right or wrong
What are the dangers
Talk Introduction
Last term we were going to talk about drink 'n' drugs we got around to
talking about drink but not drugs, so that's what we are going to do tonight
To get us thinking about this, we are going to watch a clip from the film
Looser
[Looser. Times taken from the start of the film]
32 mins - scene in the canteen
45 mins - stop before the knock on the door
The middle bit
In that clip Dora was given a mixture of drugs that nearly killed her
Fortunately, Paul came and saved the day
What would you do if you discovered one of your friends was taking
drugs?
Would you tell?
What if they were 'dealing' or spiking drinks like in the film?
Why do you think people use drugs?
To 'escape' from reality
The buzz
To relax
To take advantage
Medical reasons
What would you do if you were offered drugs?
1 in 8 14 and 15 year olds have used an illegal drug in the past month
How easy is it to get illegal drugs?
Is there any situation where you might take drugs?
Steroids / sport
Are drugs always a bad thing?
"Ecstasy isn't safe, but cannabis is"
Free the weed etc.
Cocaine / heroin can be prescribed by doctors
[What's the thing that scared you about drugs the most]
The Bible bit
The Bible tells us that our bodies are sacred places
1 Cor 6:19 TM "your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy
Spirit"
Sacred "Dedicated or devoted exclusively to a single use, purpose, or
person"
In other words, a special place where God should live
If that is true, how do you think God wants us to treat our bodies?
Conclusion
Drugs are dangerous...
At the end of the day, we each have to decide for ourselves whether we are
going to use drugs or not.
That's a decision that can be put on us at a moments notice so we need to
be prepared
Romans 12:1 TM "take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating,
going to work, and walking around like - and place it before God as a
offering…"
Pray
