During the last few weeks, we have covered a number of different subjects
Looked at how sometimes life can get us down
How sometimes we feel we are in a living in a dark /lonely place where everybody is out
to get you
But we have seen that God is there to help us and we can talk to him by praying
And that God wants us to be happy, by following him
Tonight I we're going to look how God wants us to be different.
To show you how, I've got a little test
Food tasting - place some small quantities of the following on a
Potato flakes (yellow)
Ask if anybody has any food allergies!!
Invite people to taste / guess what the food is...
Afterwards ask which :
hard to identify
easy to identify
Ask somebody to read out Matthew 5 from The Message Page 18:
The Bible says this
"Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out
the God-flavours of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste
godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage"
Bearing in mind our little test, what do you think the Bible is telling us to be like?
What does it mean to be "like salt"?
I think you would agree, it was difficult to tell some of those things apart
But it was pretty obvious which was the salt
Thatís how God wants us to live our lives
Not to be like everybody else, but to be willing to be different
Not to live our lives just like our friends or how we feel
But to live our lives the way God wants us to.
Sometimes that means we have to stand out from the crowd like that salt
stood out from the other foods
That is not always easy
How / when do you think God wants us to be different?
Our attitude / language / behaviour / care when others don't etc.
God wants us to be like "salt"
Yes its hard
But remember God is also there to help us with these things
