Talk (Are you who you say you are? MIB 2 / The Man in the Iron Mask)
MIB 2 DVD / The man in the iron mask
The power point should say "Are you who you say you are"
[some kind of intro to the title]
If you have not seen this film before
The MIB are like the police force for aliens who live on this planet
Agent J (Will Smith) is going to see Agent K who used to be a MIB…they
need him back…
The problem is that agent K had his memory erased so he remembers
nothing of his past life as an MIB
[MIB 2 DVD - Scene 9]
The clip starts when J enters the post office and stops when K gets in
The middle bit
As we’ve just seen agent K was working with a load of people who were not
what they appeared to be…
On the outside they looked normal…but in reality they were very different
They were living their lives hiding behind a mask…
Why do you think they did that?
So people didn’t freak out / see who they are
To hide from people who would want to do them harm
To be accepted
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like I’m wearing a mask…the
real me is not the person who people know or like
Have you ever got to know someone and then found out they are not who
you thought they were? Explain…
Do you ever feel like you have to be something your not?
Other peoples idea of been a Christian
What makes the real you different to what most people see?
The Bible bit
It's easy to be a Christian when you are on weekends like this...
What counts is what happens in our everyday lives...
1 John 2:4-10 (CEV) But if we claim to know him and don't obey him, we are lying and the truth
isn't in our hearts. We truly love God only when we obey him as we should, and
then we know that we belong to him. If we say we are his, we must follow the
example of Christ.
My dear friends, I am not writing to give you a new commandment. It is the
same one that you were first given, and it is the message you heard. But it
really is a new commandment, and you know its true meaning, just as Christ
does. You can see the darkness fading away and the true light already shining.
If we claim to be in the light and hate someone, we are still in the dark. But
if we love others, we are in the light, and we don't cause problems for them
What do you think that verse means?
What does it mean to be a Christian at school?
with your friends?
when your playing football?
How does it effect the way you behave?
[expand this a bit more...]
[throw in a few personal stories]
Have you ever stood up for your Christian beliefs?
To be a Christian is to be loyal servant of God...even when that's hard...
We're going to finish by matching a clip from The man in the iron mask
In this clip, the musketeers stayed loyal to the true king
even through it might cost them their lives
I wonder are you willing to live up to that?
Start at scene 32 / 1 hr 47 mins 43 seconds - he says "cowards"
End at scene 34 / 1 hr 53 mins – Just after the musketeers charge the
soldiers, they hold their swords up to indicate their loyalty to the
Pray – help us to get real
Other Bible bits
John 1:12 (NIV)
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the
right to become children of God
"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and
whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if
you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you
with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's
property, who will give you property of your own?
“No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the
other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve
both God and Money."
The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.
